Q. What ski resorts are in Park City, and how far are
they from downtown?
A. Park City ski resorts include Deer Valley, Park City Mountain
Resort and The Canyons. All three are within minutes of the city’s
historic Main Street. Deer Valley is less than two miles south
of downtown, and The Canyons are within five miles to the north.
Park City Mountain Resort is so close to the city that one of
its lifts, known as the Town Lift, actually picks skiers up from
Park Avenue and takes them to the mountain.
Q. Does Park City have its own airport? How does anybody
get up there?
A. Park City does have a very small airport, but it does not
handle commercial flights. Salt Lake City International Airport
is only 36 miles to the west and services more than 700 arrivals
and departures every day. A short, pleasant drive on Interstate
80 gets visitors to Park City within an hour. Ostensibly, one
could leave from any where in the continental U.S. in the morning,
and be in Park City by the afternoon.
Q. I know Park City is famous for skiing and the Sundance
film festival in the winter, but I’m going to be stuck there
in the middle of July. What will I do?
A. Park City is a outdoor recreation paradise year round. Ski
resorts run chair lifts in the summer for scenic tours, or to
drop hikers and bikers near the top of the mountain. There are
several world-class golf courses in the valley as well as the
picturesque Jordanelle Reservoir, where you can enjoy boating,
fishing and other water sports. Horseback rides, ATV adventures
and backcountry treks are also popular favorites. In case that’s
not enough, a hot-air balloon tour will provide you with an unforgettable
experience and views that will take your breath away.
